Once you create a new exam or open an existing one, you are taken to The Exam screen which can have up to 17 different tabs depending on the template in use. In this section you will see a description of each one of them and their functionality.
The top of The Exam screen displays the exam number, date and type. It also displays the name of the patient being examined and the exam status (“Open” or “Locked”). The History drop-down box lets you switch the exam currently displayed with other exams performed for the same patient. At the far right you have four buttons. The first one, Search, will let you search for other exams in the database. The second, Letters, will let you select an exam letter to merge with the data in the current exam. Clicking Coder will display the Exam Coder dialog (see the next section) and Equipment will allow you to launch the interface for any equipment in your practice that has been integrated with My Vision Express.
The Exam screen opens up displaying the ‘Patient’ tab by default. The first tab however is dedicated to the glance letter for the exam. We will start with this first tab and follow the order laid out on the screen.
