Generating Reports

•      To create a report:

1.  Follow the menu item sequence … File | Reports | <report name>.

 

•      Criteria Tab

2.  In the Reports Screen under the Criteria Tab, enter the appropriate search information in the data fields to restrict the report generated to match the criteria specified.

3.  Click the Search Button and the report created will be limited to the criteria specified.

 

•      Preview Tab

4.  The Preview Tab displays a print preview of the report. You also have an option to specify sorting and filtering information for the report.

5.  To print the report click Print. To modify printer options, click the Printer Setup menu item. 

6.  You can save the information to disk by clicking the Save As Button.   

7.  Click Sort to perform Sorting on any of the columns that appear in the report. The Sort Dialog Box will appear to specify sort criteria.

8.  Columns available for sorting lists columns you can sort on. Drag a column from here to the Sort Columns List Box to use it as a sort column

9.  The Sort Columns are currently used as sort criteria. The column at the top is the primary sort criteria; Subsequent entries are treated as secondary sort criteria. Drag a column out of this list box to remove it from the list of sort columns.

10. If Ascending Sort Checkbox is checked the sort is ascending; otherwise sort descending.

11. Click Filter to perform filtering on any of the columns that appear in the report. The Filter Dialog Box will appear which allows you to control the rows displayed.

12. Original Filter Criteria Section displays the original filter expression.

13. New Filter Criteria Section lets you select items from the Column, Operator, Value, and (optionally) logical dropdown list boxes to specify new filter criteria.

14. Zoom Button enlarges or reduces display in print preview mode. You can zoom to a predefined setting or a custom zoom percentage. Specify a predefined zoom percentage by clicking one of the radio buttons; specify a custom zoom percentage by typing in the Percent Box.

15. Checking the Ruler Checkbox makes the rulers display when the report displays in preview mode.

16. Print Preview Checkbox determines whether the report is displayed in preview mode.

 

Custom reports created in third-party report authoring tools such as Crystal Reports, Impromptu, Microsoft Excel can be started directly from within My Vision Express. The report viewer for which the custom report was created must be installed on the computer where the report is run.

•      To add a custom report:

17. Launch the Custom Reports Module following the menu item sequence … File | Reports | Custom Reports. The Custom Reports Screen is displayed and any reports previously entered are displayed and can be modified by typing over the existing text.

18. Click the Add Button to add a new report. A row is added to the grid to allow information to be entered for a new custom report. In the Report Name Field, enter the name of the report.

19. In the Report Location Field, enter the path for the report’s location on a network or local drive. To browse for the location, click the Browse Button.

20. When finished entering the custom report, click the OK Button to save changes and exit the window. To exit without saving changes, click the Cancel Button.

21. To remove a custom report, select the report in the grid and click the Delete Button.

 

•      To launch a custom report:

22. Follow the menu item sequence … File | Reports |Custom Reports.

23. Select the report that you want to run and click the Run Button.

24. When finished click the Cancel Button.

 

In order to save to PDF you need to have GNU Ghostscript installed on the computer. To save as PDF, click Save As Button and select PDF as the Save As Type.

•      To install GNU Ghostscript:

25. Download gs705w32.exe from ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/gnu/gs705 into a temporary directory on your computer.

26. Run gs705w32.exe to install Ghostscript. The default installation directory is C:\gs. You can select a different directory and/or choose to install shortcuts to the Ghostscript console and read me file.

27. Add the gs7.05\bin directory to your system PATH environment variable in the Windows Control Panel. For example, if you installed Ghostscript in C:\gs, add the following to the system PATH environment variable: C:\gs\gs7.05\bin
