Chapter 1: System Setup

Providers

A provider is any member of your staff who provides products or services for your patients. Most insurance companies and plans require wither a Provider Information number (PIN) or Group Number when a claim is submitted.  The PIN is automatically entered in box 24K of the CMS/HCFA 1500 Form.  Provider information is automatically inserted into the appropriate boxes on the CMS/HCFA 1500 Form when the insurance is billed.  You can enter several insurance license numbers for a provider under insurance data.  The license numbers that you enter here will be available under Group and PIN number in the Insurance Module.  If you would like to add more insurance types, add them by going to Categories and editing the Provider Insurance category.   See Categories for more information.  The UPIN#, Unique Physician Identifier Number, is a 6-digit number that identifies the provider who ordered or referred the beneficiary for services. This number is placed in Block 17a of the CMS/HFCA 1500 Form.
